The View from Here: Cranking Up…

Fewer words, fewer photos;  keep it simple

Well, here we are with January in full flow; the new year bedding in and a Corner of Cornwall still languishing – lonely and unloved.  It’s been on my mind a lot, my blog.  Or rather my lack of blog.  I’m not one for New Year Resolutions anymore, but I do feel that I need to make an effort here and get into some kind of rhythm.  Either that or retire gracefully – at least for a while.  So the time has come to test the waters once more and see if I can re-establish the blogging habit.  It’s not that I have nothing to write about; I just seemed to have lost momentum.  I suspect there will be an eclectic timeline: there are things I’d like held here from the past few months so I’ll be jumping about a bit.  And couple of changes, I think: fewer words, fewer photos.  Keep it simple.  And we’ll see what happens.

  1. Welcome back, Sandra! Just think of your followers out here, who enjoy reading your updates, and you’ll get back into the swing! But no pressure, either — I sometimes am absent for lengthy stretches, so I tend to keep a few back-up posts that stand up to time.

  2. Happy New Year Sandra, my blog has been in a quiet spell too, not that I have been but sometimes that’s just the way it is, I set no expectations so it can be the freedom thing I’ve always wanted it to be. Enjoy your absent stretches, stretching always good for the mind and body 😉

    1. Ha, Claire – I suspect in my case the opposite applies: blogging is the good stretch; absences are the hibernations 😉 But hopefully 2018 will see me back posting a little more regularly at least – without putting myself under undue pressure. Happy New Year to you too 🙂

    1. Thank you, Katrina, and you also. It’s the healthy part I’m crossing my fingers for. Better health, more energy = more blogging! (And other good things!)

    1. And Happy New Year to you too, Sarah 🙂 Thank you for those encouraging words; I hope to make more regular appearances this year. (I’m enjoying the Northanger/Persuasion series hugely. And learning a lot! )

  3. Happy New Year, Sandra! I think we all go through what I call bloggers block and as you say it’s not what to write about that’s the problem. For me it’s actually settling down to actually get going with writing. I find other things to do first – make a cup of tea, read other blogs, commenting etc rather than writing the blog post on the last book I read, which is what I ‘should’ be doing right now.

You’re also right about keeping it simple too – but just do what you’re comfortable doing. Blogging is for fun not work.

    1. Thank you, Margaret; wise words. It’s mostly energy levels that keep me away. Fingers crossed for improved health this year which will mean more posts I hope. It’s looking good so far!

    1. Thank you, FF. I know you’re right. I want it to be fun – and hopefully it will be! 😀 (If not, I’ll just have to manage with the fun from reading your posts…. And the posts of others of course…. Wouldn’t want you to get toooooo conceited… 😉 )

  4. In the space-time continuum, time is not linear, nor it has a span; it’s more like dandelions gushing inside out and shimmering, not unlike the frozen dance of fireworks captured in the image. Don’t erase your blips from the blogosphere. Wish you a very happy New Year!

  5. Lovely to read your thoughtful words again, Sandra. No matter how brief or lengthy, they bring a lot of pleasure to a lot of people, and, hopefully, to you too, when you write them.
So have a Happy, relaxed and joyful 2018 and be with us when you can.

    1. Thank you, Jane 🙂 You’ve captured my dilemma really: there are things I want held here which are currently missing. I need to crank up and fill in some gaps as well as moving forward with new things yet to happen. This little post, and the lovely responses, have been so encouraging. I’m feeling motivated! 🙂

  6. A very Happy New Year to you too Sandra! Like your other commentators, let me entreat you simply to work in whatever way suits at any given time. Don’t feel under any pressure to write to particular deadlines – we’ll all be here whenever you feel like posting 🙂

  7. It’s so interesting–you’ve summed up my feelings about my own blog perfectly! It really does seem to be about a rhythm . . . and I’ve lost it. Here’s hoping you will keep writing, on your own terms, as long as you have things you want to say–we’ll be here to read and enjoy!

      1. Thanks for the encouragement, Margaret–your feedback has always meant so much to me! And I will say that, lately, ideas seem to be percolating where, for awhile, I felt like I’d run dry . . .

  8. Hail Sandra! You just stated very eloquently why I don’t have my own blog…. 🙂
Don’t worry, do what you think you want to do! I’ve given up resolutions a long time ago but I do two things: I search for MY Word of the Year (one word, keep it simple, one to mean something to me – and no I haven’t found it YET) AND I make some ‘good intentions’ – whether I go fully along the months with them or not, THAT’s another story.
So welcome back if and when you’re ready!

    1. Thank you Kiki. I also have a Word of the Year! I’ve done it for quite some time now and I find it so helpful, often in unexpected ways. Some years the word is easy to find; other years it takes patience. I have this year’s word already; I’m sure you will uncover yours too very soon 🙂

  9. I hope you will want to continue writing. Yours is a blog I really enjoy. But if you’re not enjoying your writing, it will start to show, as this blogging malarkey is meant to be a pleasure for all concerned. Take as long as you need ….. then please come back.

  10. Happy New Year, Sandra. It’s good to see a new post from you – I always enjoy reading what you have to say. I hope you can find a routine that works for you and that you’re happy with. Blogging shouldn’t cause any stress, after all! 🙂

  11. Best wishes to you for the year ahead Sandra. I always enjoy reading your posts. I know what you mean about that feeling of losing momentum. I feel bad that I cannot make time to read all the blogs I like. To be honest I simply cannot keep up with reading blogs with daily posts. I way prefer less frequent posters as there is more time to savour what they write. So know that you have appreciative readers for when the spirit moves you!

  12. I know exactly what you mean…to blog or not to blog seems to be a question that challenges most of us at some time or other. I hope you continue, and have a happy new year x

  13. Hi Dear Friend. I’ve thought of you often even though I’m negligent with sending messages. I hope this is a dream of a new year for you.
